EWA MONIKA ZEBROWSKI

Ewa Zebrowski had a distinguished career in film production and marketing before turning her attention to art photography in the late 1990s. She’s had 10 solo exhibitions since then, while pursuing a BFA in fine arts/photography at Concordia (2001) and two years later, an MA in Visual Arts at the Université du Québec à Montréal. Her beautiful photographs have graced the covers of many important books (some of which will be awarded as door prizes at the Rover Art Fair). Her limited edition artist’s books are in several major collections. Last year she won first prize in two categories of the Grand Prix Lux, given by the Canadian Association of Photographers and Illustrators.

Italy and literature are among her inspirations; time and memory are recurring themes. Growing up, she heard stories of Rome from her mother, who had spent the war years there, hence the haunting landscape she has made available for this show, the fruit of one of her many trips to Italy. Ewa works in digital, yet her photographs are reminiscent of another time, when to own a camera was to dedicate oneself of the art of the image. Through her mastery of the medium, she creates a vision of our world as powerful and full of emotion as those early portraits and landscapes.

Ewa lives in Montréal with her husband and two sons. She is represented in Montreal by the gallery Art Mûr and by Millenium Images in the UK.
