For any reader looking to find a book with an interesting array of characters this summer, I would recommend going to your local bookstore and buying A Matter of Life and Death or Something, a novel by Ben Stephenson. However, if you are looking for a book that you just cannot put down, I would not recommend this book at all.
It’s that time of year again. The time where we escape the falling snow, lock ourselves in warm houses, and curl up with a good book. But that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy some chilling horrors. P.J. Bracegirdle’s Sinister Scenes can put you in a terrified mood along with some mystery and a bit of humour no matter what the time of year.
The story starts off very fast, with the main character, Amos, being given his mysterious quest in the first few pages: deliver the news to the fairy Gwenfadrille that her mermaid friend has died and that she had chosen Amos Daragon to be the Mask Wearer. Can you begin a novel without developing a backstory to the main character? Yes you can, as Amos Daragon proves.
