MTL Brings Home the TO Bling

Further to Rover’s review of the six Montreal-related shows in Toronto’s Summerworks Theatre Festival, Montreal theatre contributions rose to the top when it came time to hand out the prizes.

If you’ll recall, two plays were already rated 5 NNNNNs (Iceland and Pieta) by Now magazine, while the other four all recieved 4 NNNNs (My Pregnant Brother, Big Plans, Haunted, One/Un).

By the Festival’s end, the breakdown for awards was as follows:

Iceland, $3000 audience Choice Award.
Iceland, $1000 Contra Guys Award for Outstanding New Text to author Nicolas Billon.
Iceland, RBC Arts Professional Award Honourable Mention to Iceland producer Renna Reddie.

Big Plans, $500 Canadian Stage Award for Direction to Montrealer Tanner Harvey.
My Pregnant Brother (director) and Big Plans (writer), $500 Theatre Centre Emerging Artist Award to Montrealer Jeremy Taylor.

Pieta, Spotlight award to performer Tasmin Kelsey (directed by Montrealer Sarah Stanley).
