New Dog, New Tricks

by Marianne Ackerman

Welcome to Rover’s first makeover, the next step in our effort to create a vibrant record of Montreal’s artistic life and a forum for the best writers in town. Readers who’ve been following the site since we launched on October 1, 2008 will have noticed an ever-expanding rostrum of by-lines. One hundred and sixty-eight posts from more than 50 writers. Coming in at around 500 words each, their combined contribution could fill a small book – if such an archaic measure can be permitted.

This new design is calculated to better display the depth and breadth of Rover coverage, and at the same time, make room for new features. We are proud to announce Rover’s first “foreign correspondent:”  Our Man In Toronto. Noah Richler will be offering his insights and observations on all matters cultural.  Noah grew up in Montreal, went to French schools here and counts Montreal among his home towns. He lives in Toronto and so will be feeding us news and colour commentary on that great hub of artistic activity.

Our future plans are many: Blue Met Blog, in which Rover writers swarm Montreal’s spring literary festival in search of the spirit of the event. Videos – profiles of Montreal artists by Robbie Wilkins.

And Notebook – my own periodic observations on art and on the progress of Rover.

I am proud of the quality and breadth of the writing posted on this site over the first six months of Rover’s existence. A sincere thank-you for the great writers, editors and web talents who’ve pitched in and made this crazy idea a reality. Thank you dear readers – and please do tell your friends to make www.roverarts.com a stop on their daily surf.
